Honoring Law Enforcement Professionals at the Southern Oregon True Crime Summit

Melynda Cordes · January 30, 2026 ·

True crime does not exist in a vacuum.

Behind every case are real people doing difficult, often unseen work, investigators, officers, analysts, and legal professionals committed to protecting communities and seeking truth. The Southern Oregon True Crime Summit exists because of this work, and it is deeply important to us that law enforcement voices are centered, respected, and welcomed in this space.

To the professionals who serve: thank you.
Your insight, experience, and dedication are what make thoughtful, ethical true crime conversations possible.

With Gratitude to Our Law Enforcement Professionals

We are honored to welcome the following law enforcement professionals to the Southern Oregon True Crime Summit. Each brings a unique perspective shaped by years of service, investigation, and commitment to justice.

  • Sergeant Pearson
Speaking on modern investigative methods, including cyber tips and how digital reporting tools help identify and apprehend offenders who hide in plain sight.
  • Chief Griffin
Offering insight into the realities of rural law enforcement and his involvement in the John William Kelly case, highlighting how complex investigations honor victims and unfold beyond the headlines.
  • Lieutenant Colonel Weitzel (Ret.)
Bringing experience from forensic services within the Illinois State Police Department, with deep expertise in evidence, analysis, and investigative support.
  • Adam Knight
With a background spanning Army Intelligence and the U.S. Secret Service, Adam Knight contributes a national-level perspective on intelligence, protection, and investigative operations.
  • Officer Furman
Representing local law enforcement through the Jacksonville Police Department, offering grounded insight into community-based policing and investigative realities.

We also recognize the essential role of the justice system beyond law enforcement and are grateful for the participation of Kirsten Snowden, whose work helps ensure accountability, due process, and the pursuit of justice through the courts.
